Today has been sort of bittersweet.

This woman that I’ve worked with for the past 2.5 years left her job for greener pastures. I’ve always tried to keep my work and play separate but I think of her as a good friend. We’ve never done anything outside of work but she was always a cool person to talk to whenever I wanted to take a smoke break. Over the years she’s told me about her life and I’ve shared different aspects of my life with her. Today was her last day at work and I’ll miss her. I do realize that she will still be in town and I will get to see her on occasion but it won’t be quite the same.

During my lunch break, my friend Nikki called and said that she was on her way to Louisville for a quick visit. I met up with her at the bar later and we had a very nice night talking, reminiscing and just catching up a little.

So I had a sort of yin and yang thing going on. I had one old friend sort of leave my life and another old friend come back into it, if only temporarily.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Today's pic of the day is an old picture I took back in '98 but with an addition.

Some guys at work have decided to do their own Star Wars Fan Film and Nick has been showing off a few samples of his photoshop work. It got me wondering how well I could do. I'm not too thrilled with my work at the moment but I think its good enough to post an early attempt. I escpecially like the Budweiser lightsaber. Not that the quality is better it's just that its a bottle of Bud that's been turned into a lightsaber.

Segue...

I went out on a date with this particular girl about 2.5 to 3 years ago and nothing ever came out of it. When I asked her out it was sort of a thing where she seemed like she was giving me the eye and I was feeling particularly saucy that night and I asked her out. I didn't know her and we hadn't really talked much. The date was sort of bizarre. We went to eat and she was a very quiet person and I have never been the kind of person that can carry a conversation on my own. I need a little exchange or I'll probably just clam up myself for the most part. When she did say something it was sort of surreal. It's been so long I can't remember specifics but I started to think early on that it was going to be a long night. We later went to the park and she smoked a little pot. We seemed to have nothing to talk about and she seemed just as bored as I was. We went down to the Mag a little later and stared at each other in a booth for a while and I took her home.

We never really talked again. She rarely came to the Mag before and she rarely came to the Mag after. We'd see each other and say "hi" but that was about it.

So she comes into the bar last night and all of a sudden she's sitting next to me and says "Hi."
I said, "Hi."
She said, "Do you remember when we went out?"
I said, "Yeah, we went to that italian place and the park."
She said, "Do you want to go out again?"

What would you say in this situation?

I said the first thing that came to my mind, "No, I'm actually kind of seeing somebody right now. It's not real serious but I don't want to mess it up."
Now this isn't true but I didn't have the heart to just say, "No, I don't think so." without giving some sort of an excuse. I couldn't just say that, "You kind of give me the creeps and almost everything you say is cryptic or surreal."

She seemed ok with that, though the conversation continued and continued to be weird.

She told me that I probably won't see her again. I asked why and she said that she was moving. I asked where to and she said, "To the place I was born." So then I asked where that was. She tells me where and I asked her if she has family there, I assume since she was born there. She then tells me that she is going there to try to find her Mom and Dad.

It pretty much kept going on like that for a while.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Here is a song I listened to a couple of times today and if it gets caught in your head you should thank me for it.

Pasties and a G-String by Tom Waits

Smelling like a brewery, looking like a tramp,
I ain't got a quarter, got a postage stamp
Been five o'clock shadow boxing all around the town,
Talking with the old man, sleeping on the ground
Bazanti bootin al zootin al hoot and Al Cohn
Sharing this apartment with a telephone pole
And a fish-net stocking, spike-heel shoes,
Strip tease, prick tease, car keys blues
And the porno floor show, live nude girls,
Dreamy and creamy and brunette curls
Chesty Morgan and Watermelon Rose
Raise my rent and take off all your clothes
With trench coats, magazines, a bottle full of rum,
She's so good, make a dead man come
Pasties and a G-string, beer and a shot
Portland through a shot glass and a Buffalo squeeze
Wrinkles and Cherry and Twinkie and Pinkie and Fifi live from Gay Paree
Fanfares, rim shots, back stage, who cares, all this hot burlesque for me
(scat)
Cleavage, cleavage, thighs and hips
From the nape of her neck to the lipstick lips
Chopped and channeled and lowered and lewd
And the cheater slicks and baby moons
She's a-hot and ready, creamy and sugared
And the band is awful and so are the tunes
(scat)

Crawling on her belly, and shaking like jelly,
And I'm getting harder than Chinese algebrassieres
And cheers from the (hmm) compendium here
Hey sweetheart they're yelling for more
You're squashing out your cigarette butts on the floor
And I like Shelly, and you like Jane
And what was the girl with the snakeskin's name?
And it's an early-bird matinee, come back any day,
Get you a little something that you can't get at home
Get you a little something that you can't get at home
It's pasties and a G-string, beer and a shot
Portland through a shot glass and a Buffalo squeeze
Popcorn, front row, higher than a kite, and I'll be back tomorrow night,
And I'll be back tomorrow night
(scat)

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Monday morning we got up early and packed everything up. Our checkout time was noon. We left our bags at the front desk and ate lunch at the Cafeteria again. Real good food. Tina and I went to the American Museum of Natural History and Cyrus went to run some of his own errands. We were on different flights so he was on his own from there.

The Museum is massive and there was a lot to see. We spent a couple of hours wandering through the place. We then walked back over to Central Park and grabbed a bench in the shade and just enjoyed the day for another hour or so.

Then it was back to the hotel and a shuttle ride out to the airport in Newark. We were there about 3 hours early and when we went to get our seating assignment the lady at the counter told us she thought she could get us on an earlier flight on standby. The thing is that there was a storm moving in and she thought the later flight may be delayed if it hit early enough.

We rushed over to the gate for the early flight and made it on the plane. Now are only worry was that in Cincinnati we may not get our connecting standby flight. If that happened we’d have to wait 3 hours or so to catch our regular scheduled flight. Our plane in Newark was on the tarmac for an hour waiting to take off because of some computer problem at the airport. We got to Cincinnati and ran from concourse B to Concourse C with about 15 minutes left until the plane took off. They told us that they still weren’t sure if they could get us both on the plane.

Luckily, we both got on the plane and we got home to Louisville 2 hours before we were planning. Our luggage on the other hand arrived as regularly scheduled. So we had to make a run back out to the airport later in the evening.

Overall a very good day.

It was a great weekend and it lived up to the hype for me. I recommend that everyone visit NYC at least once in their lives. Most people may not have the advantage I had of having people there I already knew.

It’s kind of weird… when I first started this webpage; I never had any idea that people other than my friends would ever read it. Now I have friends in NYC, which I was able to meet for the first time and still get along and never had an awkward moment. I loved New York but I must admit I am also glad that I’m home. Though there has been a residual effect… I want to drive like the cabbies in NYC. Very bad idea for Louisville.

Feel free to checkout some of Tina and my NYC pictures.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I have the will but not the strength.

I have a bunch of stuff I want to talk about but I am just too tired to go into it all at this point. I got to tell you that what I really want right now is to spread out in MY bed and sleep the sleep of the dead.

It has been a very long weekend and it seems like it was so long ago when I packed up my stuff and headed for the airport. I’ll give more details and I’ll post a bunch of pictures tomorrow night.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

New York Day 3.

After all of the walking we did Saturday we all were dead tired. I was the first to wake up at 12:20. We all took a quick shower. It wasn’t at the same time but you can read it as you like. Took a cab to Times Square so we could get to the AMC 25 to watch Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. We got there early enough to eat lunch at a Jewish deli run by a bunch of Pakistani men. This is also one of the neat things about NYC. No one thinks this is unusual.

Times Square is amazing looking. It a total and complete shrine to capitalism, but capitalism looks cool. All of the signs are gigantic and most of them have intricate lighting systems.

I liked Episode II but I have some of the same complaints that I think most people had. The guy playing Anakin is just not a good actor. As a matter of fact he sucks. Also I don’t know if it’s bad acting or just the script but I see no reason why Amadala would fall for this guy. He is spoiled brat who is always complaining about everything. I guess it could be said that he is supposed to be like that because we all know that even in later life Vader doesn’t take disappointment very well.

We hooked up with Amelia and ate dinner at this little Russian diner that server almost anything you could think of and we ran over to 7B. I got to meet Shawn of Dog Eat Dog and Murphy’s Law. Like I’ve said before, Shawn and Giorgio have been emailing me for a while and it was great to finally meet up with them. Shawn gave me a CD he had made with some music they will be releasing soon I believe, which I’m listening to right now. It’s really good. I wouldn’t be surprised if you hear about Dog Eat Dog in the near future.

Tina and I called it an early night because we are both dead tired. Cyrus is still out at this point but this has been a very long fun-filled weekend and I’ll admit that I’m not used to walking around as much as I have been this weekend. I’m just sore.

We’ve decided to pass on the WTC site because apparently the cleanup is finished and there really isn’t anything to see, it’s just a big flat empty lot.

We have a couple of things we want to squeeze in tomorrow and we have to be out of the room by noon. So I’m going to try to get to sleep early.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

New York, Day 2.

Tina is used to getting up at 7AM. Cyrus and I are not used to getting up at 7AM. Cyrus and I rarely see noon. I guess I should be grateful that she let us sleep until 10AM.

I don’t think I had a hangover but I did have a bit of a sinus headache. I had a great time at 7B. Giorgio kept referring to me as the Elvis of the internet. That is definitely an overstatement but it was fun to hear him keep saying that. I do have evidence that Giorgio was trying to kill me. If you look at this close-up version of today’s pic of the day, you can see that the “shot” of whiskey he got me was twice as large as his. I was almost as drunk Friday night as I was on my birthday. If you get to NYC you need to go to 7B at the corner of 7th street and Avenue B.

We spent the first half of the day roaming around New York. We went to a restaurant called Cafeteria to get a late breakfast and then we headed to the Guggenheim which was neat but the subject of this months exhibition was Brazil, which no offense to our friends from South America, didn’t really capture my attention. There were some very cool pieces.

We then walked down to Central Park and hung out there for a while. I was kind of amazed at how many people were there. I know it is a holiday weekend but it was almost like there was some sort of event that was supposed to be going on, but it was just a bunch of people enjoying the park.

We then took a cab to the Soho area and did some shopping and lots of walking. One of the odder moments of the day was when this guy who seemed to be yelling off and on as he was walking down the street shouted, “MY NUT IS PRICELESS!” as he walked by Cyrus and I.

Then it was time to go back to the hotel for a nap. We were all pretty much beat. After some quiet time we went to this little Italian restaurant to meet up with a couple of friends of Cyrus’s, Lucy and Tom. I have to say that they are good people who took it upon themselves to show us around some of the bars in Manhattan.

The food was fantastic. I love Italian food and this was some of the best I’ve had. I can’t remember the name of the restaurant at the moment but the food was good and the service was great. Also I like the lady who owns the restaurant who will yell at you if you ask for parmesan cheese.

We walked about a block away from the restaurant and we were waiting in front of this deli for Lucy to buy some cigarettes. I’m standing there talking with Cyrus and Tom and I here someone shout “BOO!” and grab my arm. It was Amelia who had moved to New York from Louisville last January. I was amazed but she took it in stride. She said she figured if I was coming to New York I’d end up in the Village. I think the plan is to hook up with her Sunday night at 7B.

So we caught a cab and went to Gaslight which is a cool little lounge bar that Giorgio had recommended because supposedly some of the Soprano cast goes there on occasion. We weren’t that lucky though. After a while we decided to do a little bar hopping. We went to the Hog and Heifer that was filled with sailors swing dancing… We didn’t stay or even really go in. We avoided the Manhole and Lure. We went to the Pork Pit for a bit and then walked 18 blocks to Lot 61. Did I mention I’ve done a lot of walking today?

We had a good time at there and we decided to walk the rest of the way to the hotel and call it a night.

Tomorrow isn’t completely planned out. Episode II at the AMC 25 in digital projection and I plan on doing a little shopping but I am planning on going to 7B to hook up with Amelia and hopefully Giorgio, Rachel(sp?) and Sean will be there also.

I’m beat…

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.
