"I can't do no more. What have I done? I've done nothing and yet... I can do no more."

I'm not sure if that quote translates well in the written word. Ah well. For reasons I don't really understand, I was in a better than normal mood today. Pretty damn good actually and I really don't know why.

Which is usually bad for my post because nothing has pissed me off enough to make it worth talking about in this space. There was one thing...

This guy who recently started coming to the bar again came up to me and said that he knew I obviously didn't like him and wanted to know why basically. I told him that I didn't have anything against him personally but part of the problem is all of the fights I've seen him get into. A couple of months ago I saw him jumping on the hood of a car in front of the bar. I told him that I have my friends and then there is the rest of the world. I don't like to surround myself with people that create that kind of drama.

He tried to explain that he's not like that and that he's calmed down a lot. He repeatedly said that he's not like that. After telling him that was all that I've seen he wanted to shake my hand and then he said maybe someday we could sit down and have a serious conversation. So it ended on a positive note.

Now here is the thing, why the fuck does he care what I think? I know I don't give a fuck what he thinks about me. As long as he doesn't bother me, hurt one of my friends or make trouble for my friends that work at the Mag, I could give a rat's ass what he does.

Ok, this is going to sound weird or a little conceited. I don’t mean it that way but I feel that it is the truth. I have this gift or power over people. Not that it is a power that I can use for personal gain or anything. For some reason a large number of people think I’m this great guy. I’ve heard comments made by people I barely knew, who thought I was just terrific. I think part of it is that I look like this big scary guy and when they talk to me and see that I’m friendly they are kind of relieved and maybe that translates into some sort of affinity. There have been several occasions where some asshole would insult me and literally a crowd of people went to beat him down. I felt so loved. :-)

I haven’t learned how to translate that into getting a date but I know there must be someway. This gift is what I’m trying to base my religious cult the Gary Krishna’s on. That’s something I’ve had on the back burner for a while.

Anyway…

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

First I want to quickly explain why I have two copies of the same picture for the pic of the day.

I was telling these two lovely ladies that ever since I saw this show called the Human Animal, I've been editing some of my photos ever so slightly. There was a part of the show where they showed this editor take a picture that was loaded in Photoshop or some sort of similar program and he made all of these very subtle changes in order to make the model look even more attractive. Like enlarging the pupils and smoothing out the skin of almost any visible line. Whitening the whites of the eyes and a number of other slight changes.

So when I have the time I've been doing that with my photos. Today's pics are a before and after my edit job.

Now here is something I really want to talk about.

Joseph Amrine has been on death row for 17 years for killing another inmate in the Missouri State Penitentiary. Now even though at this point every witness that testified against him has recanted their testimony and they now say he didn’t do it and there are other witnesses that claim they saw who really did it but were never asked to testify this man has gone through all his appeals and may soon be put to death.

In case you’re too lazy to read the article I want to paraphrase what it says about the three damaging witnesses. First, one of the most likely suspects was the first witness to point the finger at Joseph Amrine. Even though this witness still denies he did it, he now says Amrine didn’t do it.

It the ultimate Catch 22… When two of the witness recanted there testimony and the information was brought to the Judge, he said that they weren’t credible because there was still another witness. Later, when the third witness recanted his testimony, the Judge said that he wasn’t credible either and that since they were all convicts the recanting wasn’t credible. Now that the third witness recanted they tried to appeal the decision on the first two witnesses because the decision was partially based on the fact that there was a third witness. The Judge refused to reconsider because he felt that he had already made a decision and that was that. Not to mention that if none of these men were credible because they were convicts their original testimony shouldn’t have been allowed.

Missouri Gov. Bob Holden, a pro-death penalty advocate who so far has never even stayed an execution during his term, has the life of Amrine in his hands.

Its cases like this that will some day have the people of this country stand up and demand an end to the death penalty. I really can’t believe we still have it. Most of the people living in this country are Christians of one form or another. You would think that would mean that we wouldn’t want our government to have the power to kill its citizens.

Have you ever been accused of something you didn’t do? Everyone thought you did it and other’s claim to have seen you commit the act? Multiply that by about a billion, because this is a man’s life we’re talking about. He was originally in prison for writing bad checks and now he is on death row.

The more I think about this the angrier I get. If anyone reads this page in Missouri write your Governor. Do something! The people of Missouri elected this man to represent them and they are the only people who can force him to stop this. Even though I'm not living in Missouri I'm still going to send a letter.

I am at a loss…

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I must be the luckiest man alive!

Believe it or not but American Online, also known as AOL by those familiar with navigating the World Wide Web, AOL sent me a CD that would give me 1000 free hours of AOL. WOW! 1000 hours of free service! How could I be so lucky? AOL is the most popular Internet Service Provider, also known as an ISP, in the world. If it’s the most popular, then it must mean that it’s the best.

The only catch to the free 1000 hours of free service is that you must use all 1000 hours within 45 days. Which means that I need to be online 22.2 hours a day. I’ll only get 1.8 hours of sleep a day and I won’t be able to work in that time but it will be worth it because AOL is the keenest.

I can get the ALL-New version, 7.0. It has a new look, new features and it’s the easiest and BEST AOL ever. They also have FREE 24-Hour customer service. Which is good because it takes a long while to get a real person on the phone.

I can’t wait to load this software on my computer and let it take over my network connections so that if I ever want to get rid of it I’ll probably have to reformat and reinstall my operating system but that’s one of the fun things you get to do when you own a computer.

Man! I must be the luckiest man in the world.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Those Georgia politicians are shitting their pants.

They want to do whatever they can think of to keep that crematory thing from ever happening again. First of all this crematory only dealt with funeral homes. Since they had no contact with the general public, the crematory didn’t have to be inspected. Only crematory/funeral homes had to get inspections.

Second, there is no law in Georgia for desecrating a corpse, only laws against desecrating crypts or graves, but not the corpse itself. So this guy is only being charged with fraud. Accepting money for a service that he didn’t perform.

Now the state government is scrambling to make laws to address these loopholes. So if you feel the need to desecrate a corpse do it in Georgia.

That reminds me of a story I read in News of the Weird a few years ago. In Fort Wayne, IN there was a bar fight and one of the men bit a big hunk off of the other man’s ear. When the police showed they began looking for the piece of ear but couldn’t find it. Finally, one of the officers noticed that it was still in the mouth of the biter. They tried to get him to spit it out but he wouldn’t. He even stared to taunt them by sticking it out of his mouth and sucking it back in. He then ended up swallowing it. The police tried to find a law about cannibalism to charge him with but they couldn’t find anything even close.

So I guess if you’re a cannibalistic funeral director in Georgia, you could take the body to Fort Wayne, IN and chow down.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I spent some tax cash on something new for my computer. A Radeon 8500 video card.
At-a-glance
Powered by the revolutionary RADEON™ 8500 – world’s fastest and most advanced graphics processing unit (GPU)
Features ATI's TRUFORM™, SMARTSHADER™, SMOOTHVISION™, and HYPER™ Z II technologies
The only GPU to support DirectX® 8.1
Supports OpenGL® 1.3 features
64MB of powerful double data rate (DDR) memory
Latest 3D games support the advanced features of RADEON™ 8500
Dual monitor and Video output support
Industry-leading DVD video playback
Digital Flat Panel (DVI) support
Supports 3D resolutions (32-bit color) up to 2048x1536
AGP 2.0 Compliant BUS - AGP 2X (3.3V), AGP 4X (1.5V), or AGP2X/4X based systems

I don't know what a lot of that means but I do know I like it. The duel monitor support makes me really want to get another monitor, which I don't really need but it would be nice.

The video games I've been playing, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor, look at least 10 times better. Another bonus that I didn't really think about is that every window I open just pops up. I like my screen resolution fairly high so it would slow things down a bit. With this new card I guess all of that sort of thing gets processed much faster.

Well, I just took a short break from RTCW to gloat about the new video card.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

This story came up last night.

Here is the short version. This Crematory’s incinerator hadn’t worked for a while and the operator of the business didn’t tell anyone and continued to accept bodies. They found around 200 bodies on the premises.

The discussion turned to “What you would want to be done with your body after you’ve died?” A friend of mine said that she didn’t like the idea of her body being destroyed in fire and preferred burial. I’m sure everyone has there own preference but I personally don’t want to be buried. I don’t need a small plot of land to be planted in.

I originally thought that cremation would be a good way of disposing of the body but then I started thinking of being an organ donor. So as I was writing this post, I just signed the organ donor section on my driver’s license and gave my body away.

If, I guess I should say, when I die, I have a list of things I don’t want.
1. No showing of the body. I assume there is some sort of visitation even if there is no body. Just put up a bulletin board with a bunch of pictures of me.
2. Don’t cremate me
3. Don’t bury me
4. If possible I want Ted Palmer to play the bagpipes at the funeral ceremony.

I would say to have no visitation or funeral ceremony but I know that is really more of an event for those left behind and not the corpse of honor. Plus hell, if there is some sort of soul or spirit that can be there and see and hear, I would like to hear what’s said about me. I’d also kind of like to see who cries. That’s not a gauge of love obviously. I just have always had this desire to know who would cry at my funeral. I know its weird but it’s the truth.

After my Father’s funeral I took a look at the guest book at the funeral home. I counted all of the names and after taking into account couples and those who didn’t sign the book, I figured about 800 people came to my Dad’s visitation. This was in Tell City, pop. 8800. I realize that not all of these people knew my Father. Many were friends of my brothers, friends of my Mom, friends of my Grandmother or friends of me.

I guess the point I’m getting at is that I wonder if I’ll have much of an impact on my part of the world as my Father did on his.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

(A short description of my day.)

(A short rant about something that pisses me off.)

(Segue into another rant about how I hate Valentine's Day.)

(An apology about going on about Valentine's Day for too long.)

(A funny or slightly ironic comment.)

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.
