Subject: Gandhi was a badass mother fucker

Last night, like you, I watched Gandhi again for the first time in a long time. I was moved by his inspirational tale. Then I read your Hemingwaylike prose praising him and his deeds. I was moved again. So moved, in fact that I wrote a song in his honor today. It's to the tune of "Wendy", that old 60's favorite.

Who's walking down the streets of Bangalore
Smiling at everybody he frees
Who makes illegal salt by the seashore
Everyone knows it's Gandhi

Who went to England dressed in a diaper
Went to Manchester--met the Cockneys
Who preached the virtue of homespun fiber
Everyone knows it's Gandhi

And Gandhi has hunger strikes
And Gandhi wants civil rights
And Gandhi goes where he likes
In his country
In his country

Who wore a loin cloth went he met Churchill
Who got arrested in two countries
Who sent those dudes to march on the salt mill
Everyone knows it's Gandhi

Who didn't see the need for Pakistan
Who guaranteed Muslim autonomy
Who got the home rule for his own homeland
Everyone knows it's Gandhi

And Gandhi has hunger strikes
And Gandhi wants civil rights
And Gandhi goes where he likes
In his country
In his country
Everyone knows it's Gandhi

I'm don't know if Gandhi would approve or not but I like it.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Gandhi was a bad ass motherfucker.

When I got home from the Mag, Gandhi was on American Movie Classics. It was still early in the film; Gandhi still had a full head of hair. This man bent the British Empire to his will. When protest marches that he started increasingly became violent he fasted. He fasted to get his own people to listen to him and stop the violence. His will, his stubbornness as he put it, kept him from accepting a free India that was brought about by violence.

It had been a very long time since I saw the movie. I hadn’t remembered much of it and I never got around to watching it again because it’s almost 4 hours long. That’s the kind of movie that takes a commitment. LOL, I have trouble committing to a 4 hour movie and he had the patience to wait for decades.

The interesting thing was seeing the seeds of what is happening today in Pakistan and India. Years later after India broke away from the Empire into Pakistan and India; there was a lot of violence between Muslims and Hindus. Again he fasted; he fasted in order to stop his people, Hindu and Muslim from fighting each other. He actually was able to bring peace again. He was assassinated right before he was to go to Pakistan. He wanted to go and show Hindus and Muslims that they were all one people.

This story took place over 50 years ago and in today’s newspaper I’m sure that there is some story about violence in that region. It’s amazing what one man can do if he knows that justice and righteousness is on his side and he has the will and patience to follow through. I truly believe that in a different time Gandhi would be the kind of man from which a new religion would develop.

Of course like nearly every other man whose words of peace and nonviolence brought forth a new religion; it would be twisted and used in ways that would bring shame to his memory.

At one point in the movie Gandhi said that he wasn’t sure if the people were ready for his India. Judging from recent events I would still say that they are not ready.

Watching the movie really makes me want to learn more about the man. I must admit I’m fairly ignorant of most of the history in the region. If you have several hours to spare you may want to rent the movie and spend an afternoon with it. It is definitely worth it.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I've been going through some of my older music and ripping them to MP3's. The thing is that there were several songs that only 5 or 6 years ago I was really into and now ... well let's just say that they kind of suck. Mostly the ones that suck are some house remixes that I remember playing at Sparks fairly often. They just don't have the same vibe anymore. It may be that at Sparks they were being played on a big sound system that makes these speakers on my computer seem very, very small. I actually have a pretty good set of speakers with a subwoofer but they just won't fill a dance floor.

Right now though I'm listening to the Natural Born Killers sountrack. I still think that its one of the best soundtracks ever put together. The range of music is so broad, from Patsy Cline to Dr. Dre, from Leonard Cohen to NIN. And somehow they make it all work. Its almost as if it was one piece of music. For me, it really is a cd that was made to be listened to from beginning to end as if the album was a movie.
Here is the whole list of tracks:
1. Waiting For The Miracle - Leonard Cohen
2. Shitlist - L7
3. Moon Over Greene County - Dan Zanes
4. Rock N Roll Nigger - Patti Smith
5. Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies
6. You Belong To Me - Bob Dylan
7. The Trembler - Duane Eddy
8. Burn - Nine Inch Nails
9. Route 666 - Robert Downey, Jr. + Brian Berdan
10. Totally Hot
11. Back In Baby's Arms - Patsy Cline
12. Taboo - Peter Gabriel + Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
13. Sex Is Violent - Jane's Addiction
14. History (Repeats Itself) - A.O.S.
15. Something I Can Never Have - Nine Inch Nails
16. I Will Take You Home - Russel Means
17. Drums A Go-Go - Hollywood Persuaders
18. Hungry Ants
19. The Day The Niggaz Took Over - Dr. Dre
20. Born Bad - Juliette Lewis
21. Fall Of The Rebel Angels - Sergio Cervetti
22. Forkboy - Lard
23. Batonga In Batongaville
24. A Warm Place - Nine Inch Nails
25. Allah, Mohammed, Char, Yaar
26. The Future - Leonard Cohen
27. What Would U Do? - Tha Dogg Pound

Its definitely worth checking out.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I had several interesting but short discussions today.

Earlier a guy from work and I were discussing how porn has made the internet what it is today. I have gone on several times about how I feel that porn and the distribution of it, is what has been the driving force behind the internet from the very beginning when computer geeks used to send ASCII pictures of topless girls. My friend was made the point that its still the driving force behind the internet, especially broadband. People want to get their porn as fast as possible. At work people snicker when a guy calls and complains that he can't get to a certian site and it turns out to be a porn site. That guy and many like him are the reason cable modems and DSL have spread as fast as they have.

Then Mike and I discussed breifly what we would consider our top 5 sitcoms. Here is my list but not in any particular order:
Cheers
MASH
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Seinfeld
All in the Family
Taxi

Yeah I know that's six but I can't figure out which one I want to drop.

The strangest thing of the day had to be that several of spent a good bit of time at the bar playing some sort of anagram game. We would pick a word out of the newspaper and see how many words we could make from the letters.

I guess we were all pretty bored.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

You know that time when we were walking on the beach and you turned to look back and during the worst times there was only one set of footprints...

I was carrying you.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I drove in to the lot and immediately started looking for my prey. In the last four attempts my quarry proved to be too illusive. The area had always been swarming with other hunters.

I started to look for signs of my prey. Then as if by pure animal, hunter instinct I spotted something that could point me to my goal. It was a couple, a man and a woman and they were walking a different direction than everyone else. Instead of walking directly away from my vehicle, they were walking from left to right. The couple was taking a difficult path over packed snow. I could only think of one reason that they would take this tricky route. They must have been parked near, very near.

I approached slowly but surely and then I rushed in. That parking spot was MINE!

The last four or five times Cherie and I went out to Stonybrook Cinemas we have had to park in the back forty. I actually got a great parking spot. Three cars from the front. I realize I shouldn’t be that excited about this but it was a good feeling none the less.

We went and saw Black Hawk Down which I think was a good movie but not good enough to want to watch it again. It was more of endurance test than an entertaining experience. I guess it shouldn’t be entertaining. The movie is based on a true story and according to the facts listed at the end of the movie, 19 American soldiers and 1000 Somalis died in the battle.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Tonight was some sort of Beach Party night at Phoenix Hill. Cyrus and I decided it might be fun to go and make fun of Tracy, Kelly and Chris. They are three lovely women who work at Penis Thrill as several of my friends like to refer to the club. Phoenix Hill is a night club that has been around for a very long time. A lot of bands have played there, but now for the most part its crappy cover bands, yet they still pull in a big crowd.

The Beach Party basically consisted of the entire bar staff wearing beachwear. The guys wore Hawaiian shirts and the women wore swimsuit tops and shorts. Kelly happened to have a grass skirt. Our plan backfired on us because they were all way too busy with the crowds of people to talk to us long enough to pick on them.

I don’t normally get along with the Phoenix Hill crowd. The crowd has a lot of dickheads who are looking for a fight and a lot of girls with big hair. There are many that have given up the big hair and mullets but they still have the attitude that usually seems to go with the haircut. I realize I shouldn’t judge someone by their haircut, especially since I have a shaved head and I’ve heard the “skinhead” comments one time to many. Still, there is a certain behavior that seems to go with the haircut.

We lasted about an hour and Cyrus was drunk enough not to care where he was and I was completely sober and I knew I didn’t want to be there. Sad thing is that when I got to the Mag, I didn’t feel like being there for very long. Damn, I’m a picky bitch.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.
