Friday was a pretty good day.
I got some stuff accomplished at work. Nothing too major. A comfortable day with not too much aggravation.
Then I went to the Mag. (Big surprise) But today was a little different. There were several people there that I like to hang out with and talk to. I got a pretty good picture of Maggie and Kim. Later, I witnessed a moment that reminds me of why I like the Mag Bar so much.
Somebody had been putting flyers on the tables. The owner throws them away when he sees them because they take business away from the bar. Anyway, he was near this one table and this snotty blonde woman that I’d never seen before made some negative comment about her drink.
The owner just looked at her and said, “You don’t like it?”
“Well, you don’t have to come back.” He then smiled and walked away.
Damn, I love that bar!
Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I got a negative email about my comments from yesterday's post about strip clubs. If you want to read the email and my response go to BaldMafia.com.
The reason I posted it there instead of this space was that I wanted to get the opinions of the Bald Mafia members and see if I'm the only one who feels this way or not. Nothing the person wrote effected my opinion in any way. They just lumped all strip club patrons into one stereotype and they did the same with the strippers themselves.
I was down at the bar earlier but after about an hour and a half I felt the urge to go home. That tends to happen when I go down too early. I did get a chance to wish Mike Welch a happy birthday. He had a whole entourage of people waiting to wish him a happy birthday. I'm sure he will be having a good time tonight. As a matter of fact at the time of this posting he is probably already shitfaced.
Every so often I go through a phase where I only go to the Mag out of habit and I stay for a short time every night because I only went down to see what was up and if the right combination of people aren't there, I usually hightail it out of there. (Where does the phrase "hightail it" come from?)
Anyway, I'm in one of those phases at the moment. I'm just glad summer is almost over and Fall, followed by Winter, is coming soon.
Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

NUDE DANCING!!!
Now that I have your attention, I need to go on a little rant. Last week in the LEO there was an article about Louisville attempt to clamp down on strip clubs. The most recent stories I could find online are this July 25th article and this June 19th article from the Courier Journal.
I really don't understand what the big friggin' deal is. The only people that have a problem with it all are the people who would probably never set foot in a strip club anyway. I don't go to strip clubs very often. I personally find the whole thing a little odd and most of the time I feel that I have better things to do with my money. (Did I mention that I'm a little cheap?) BUT, every once in a while I get the urge to get together with a couple of buddies and head down to PT's.
PT's is a strip club in downtown Louisville. At the moment PT's servers alcohol and the women there are allowed to go topless but the must keep their bottoms on. Just a couple of years ago they were topless and bottomless. The rules have changed so many times it ridiculous.
It almost seemed like the rules would change on a weekly basis. I remember being at the old Godfather's on Washington under the 2nd St Bridge. It was a slow night and before the girl dancing took here top all of the way off she was looking around to see if anyone looked like a cop.
The city government is turning these women into criminals. The dancers know that they will make more money if they show more flesh. The patrons of strip clubs want to see more flesh and let the dancer build a little fantasy for him. The better fantasy a dancer can create, the more money she will make. The guy leaves with a little less money and is usually happy about the whole experience. The dancer makes more in one night than many women with her skill set can make in a week or more.
The only people that have a problem with all of this are fuckin' bible beaters that think its obscene. If they think its obscene, why don't they just stay home. They can stay home and watch the religious channel on TV and let the godless heathens go out and have their fun.
Jesus Christ on a crutch!!!
I hate when someone tries to force their beliefs on me. If an adult woman (or man) wants to make money by taking off her cloths and man (or woman) wants to pay money to watch, if the dancer can do her job more effectively by being allowed to touch the audience members, who does it harm.
This is pissing me off so much I want to go to a strip club tonight just to show my support!!!
Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Update on the CitySearch poll:
WE'RE NUMBER ONE!!! I thought the voting was over but I guess we got a few hanging chads and pulled it out.
MrQuick 1:46 PM
Well the results are in.
We ended up edging out Wick's but O'Shea's still beat us. We were still the Editorial Winner. I guess whoever does the reviews for CitySearch.com likes the Mag better than O'Shea's. So we got that going for us.
I did get this email on the whole poll idea and its effect on the Mag Bar:

Subject: Not voting for the Mag Bar, and why that's a good thing
I'm not voting for the Mag bar. Neither should you. Neither should anyone
else we know.
Hear me out. I love the Mag Bar. It's my favourite bar in the city. It, for
any purpose you could name, IS the best bar in town.
And letting the whole world know about it may just ruin the place.
A few years ago, Sparks was the best place in town to go for drinking and
hanging out. Then Kirby Adams and Louisville Tonight got wind of it, did a
feature, and all of a sudden, every "fratboy jarhead" (as you call them)
absolutely HAD to be seen at Sparks. This caused a lot of the people who went
to the place from the beginning to reconsider going anymore. The place was
turning into Phoenix Hill with better music. I stopped going for a long time.
Then, after awhile, things began to return to normal. But by then it was too
late. Most of the "cool" people had already chosen a new place to call "home".
That was when the Mag began to be noticed by those in the know.
Gary, I read your page every day. Most of the time, I totally agree with your
philosophy. But this time, I am completely opposed to your idea. Let the
fratboys and jarheads have Wick's and Phoenix Hill and all those other places
they ruin by their brain dulling, median intelligence lowering presence.
But I want to keep the Mag bar just as it is. A neighbourhood bar where, even
if you don't precisely live in the neighbourhood, you can still feel at home.
"Where everybody knows your name", if you will.
Yes, the Mag is the best bar in Louisville. But I feel there's a reason that
it's the best kept secret in town. Why ruin it?
Thanks for listening.

The guy makes a good point and I do agree to a point. BUT all of the bartenders there are friends of mine and I would like to see them be able to make money. Also, there have been different mentions in the LEO and other places that almost always mentioned the Mag in favorable ways. Even in the poll at CitySearch we had a better description than the other businesses that were mentioned.
I particularly like where they said, "One rule: no knuckleheads. Test this simple law and you'll find yourself out on the sidewalk..."
The people who work at the Mag and the regulars have always been able to keep out the jackasses and I think we will survive this bit of notoriety.
Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Louisville.CitySearch.com has a poll going on right now to pick the Best College Bar in Louisville. As of this posting, O'Shea's and Wick's are ahead of the Mag Bar.
I know that there are many people out there that check out my website on a semi-regular basis. People from all over the country and different parts of the world. If any of you people have enjoyed anything I have ever done here please, please please go vote for the Mag Bar.
Truthfully, I have only been to O'Shea's once. I won't say it was bad or good. I just killed an hour sitting at the bar. There is one thing I do know, Wick's sucks bloody chicken colon ass. If you go during the day and get pizza its fine. But I really hate the frat boy, jarhead crowd that goes to Wick's.
So please in the name of all things holy and unholy, go vote for the Mag Bar.
I did my post a little early tonight. So I hope to see you at the Mag Bar later.
Good Night.

To tell you the truth I just got back from the bar and I know where there is an afterhours. Since, I don't have to work tomorrow I basically just came home to update my site and head back out into the night.
Good Night.

I had a dream... and now that dream is over.
I WON THE LOTTERY. The problem is I only won $10. Some other lucky son of a bitch won the big jackpot that ended up being over $300 million.
Ah well, I guess I can forget about the lottery again until it gets up in the $150 million dollar range. The chance of winning is so low that the jackpot really needs to be friggin' big before I feel it’s worthwhile. Think of it this way, the odds of winning are about 1 in 80,000,000. These are the odds of winning if the prize is $10 million or if its $300 million.
I've already said this to most of my friends but if I've missed you, here it goes...
When you gamble at a casino, none of the games are "fair". All of the odds are in the favor of the house. Let's take roulette for an example; there are numbers 1-36 plus 0 and 00, which makes a total of 38 numbers. Your chance of winning when placing a bet on a number is 1 in 38. The payoff if you win would be 35 to 1. $35 for each dollar bet. If you played every possible number, you would run out of money because you would be betting $38 but only winning $35. If the payoff was $40 for each dollar bet and if you played every possible number, you would raise money because you would be betting $38 but collecting $40. A completely "fair" game would be a game where if you bet every possibility you would break even. If the payoff was $38 for each dollar bet in the long run you would break even because you would be betting $38 and collecting $38.
Here is my point, once the Powerball jackpot reaches $80 million after taxes; it is a more than "fair" game. If it was possible or legal you could conceivably buy every ticket number and win more than it would take to purchase every possible ticket number. It comes to a point where it is worth the risk. The possible payoff when compared to the risk makes it worthwhile.
I hope this post made sense...
Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.
