Well its 4AM and I'm here at home writing this post. I was down at the Mag earlier but I just wasn't feeling the vibe. I have to work tomorrow and I didn't really want to stay there until closing. Especially considering that they may not close until 8AM.

I was half considering going back down there but I thought better of it. I'm sure that something happened and I missed the whole thing but what are you going to do about it?

I don't have to work Sunday so tonight I'll be out late.

The bar was pretty busy when I left. That was part of the problem, there was no place to sit and I was getting tired of standing around feeling like I was in the way. Big Dave and I were standing outside most of the night. He was complaining about being sober around a bunch of drunk people much earlier in the evening, but he was still there when I left.

Maybe I'll stick around long enought tomorrow to have a good story for you.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Derby is almost here. As a matter of fact its so close you might as well say it has already started. We have friends in from out of town. The Oaks is run today. I'd bet you $50 that when I go into work today at 3PM the parking lot will be half empty already. The corporate folks don't usually hang out when something like this is going on. Hell, I don't blame them. If I had tickets to the Oaks and could leave work early I sure would.

Of course its easier to get tickets to the Oaks.

If you didn't read the Hunter S Thompson article about the Derby you really should. I posted it as the link of the day yesterday. It was originally printed in 1970. So the prices that were mentioned were way off but its closer to the truth about the Derby than any PR story you'll ever read.

In a sort of twisted way its got me looking forward to the festivities, tonight and tomorrow. For anybody from out of town let me give you a little background about Derby weekend and the bar scene. First normally the bars close here at 4AM. But for Derby Weekend, when a bar opens Friday, they don't have to close until Sunday morning at 6AM. That's potentially 60 hours open in a row. Most bars do close around 6AM unless people are still there buying drinks.

If your from New Orleans this is no big deal because they are always open 24/7. But for the rest of the country this is pretty decadent.

Speaking of late night... I need to get to bed.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I almost never remember my dreams. I don't really know why. I've read enough to know that everyone dreams, even if they don't remember them.

When I do remember a dream it is usually unusual to say the least. One time I dreamed that earwax was being used as money. People were buying drugs with earwax. But the drugs caused people to not make any of their own earwax, so they started stealing earwax from other people.

Last night I had this really weird dream that was rather detailed, though some of the details have faded.

I was a criminal of some sort and I worked for Robert DeNiro, who was the Boss. It must have been a big budget dream if I can Robert DeNiro to be in it. He gives me an order to kill this guy that I know. I can't really see his face in my memory but he was an acquaintance of mine.

So I meet him behind a couple of buildings. Like some small stores. He’s driving a Trans Am from the late 70’s. I walked up to the car and started talking to him. I had a revolver in my hand but he hadn’t seen it because I was kind of leaning in the window a little and my right hand was behind his head.

I was about to shoot him and I looked over my shoulder and I saw this guy walking a dog. I then caught a glimpse of what looked like a badge. I then slipped the revolver into the back of the guy’s car. I said goodbye to him and started to walk away. I went around the wrong corner and turned around to go back the direction I had come. The Trans Am was gone but the guy with the dog and a couple of other officers were there. They started to ask me a bunch of questions that I don’t remember and I basically told them I didn’t know what they were talking about.

They let me go and I tried to get to Bobby’s office. I figure if we’re in the same dream I can call Robert DeNiro, Bobby. On my way there I figure that may be a bad idea because I could be followed or the office may be bugged. So as I was trying to get to a phone I woke up.

If there is anyone out there that could possibly tell me what this means, please let me know.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I posted the new Babe of the Month.

The other day I was talking about Sammy's daughter. I'm so bad about remembering these things but I believe she is about to turn 1 year-old, don't swear me to that.

It reminded me of a story Bobcat Goldthwaite used to tell. He had a baby girl and a friend his was talking to him about her.

His friend said something along the line of, “Man, having a little girl. Won’t it make you mad when she grows up and some guy has sex with her? Won’t that be kind of weird for you, the first guy having sex with your daughter?”
Bobcat said, “No, that won’t make me angry. I want my daughter to grow up knowing that sex is a beautiful thing and I want her to experience what life has to offer.”
His friend, “The first guy to have sex with your daughter wouldn’t make you angry?”
Bobcat, “No.”
His friend, “What would make you angry?”
Bobcat, “The 200th guy! I’m going to kill that guy!”

I must admit that my friends having kids kind of makes me feel old. When my Father was my age he had a wife and three boys. About that time, him and my Mom had our house built. It’s the house my Mom still lives in to this day. She’s there by herself now that all of her sons have moved away. Actually my brother, Tom and his wife are living with her temporarily until they sell their house in Nashville and buy one near Evansville, IN.

Anyway, I’m getting off of the subject. I guess I feel that I should be farther along in my life but it’s just not something I want. At least not yet.

Damn, I’m starting to think birthday’s suck.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Today will be my first day back to work since my vacation.

I am not looking forward to it. I know that I'll probably have 600 emails waiting for me. I can't complain to much. I had a relaxing week off and got to see a good friend of mine.

While I'm thinking about it, I want to let everyone know about my birthday coming up. Wednesday May 9th. I'm not telling anyone this because I want presents, because I just want all of my friends to be at the Mag to celebrate with me. Those of you who know me, know that I ALMOST never drink. I may do a shot for a special toast but I very rarely drink seriously.

The only time I get shitfaced is on my birthday. Over the year I make new friends and they have never seen me drunk or if you have been a friend for over a year and just happened to miss me on my birthday then it could have been a very long time since you've seen me drunk.

Well your chance to see me, MrQuick, drunk is Wednesday May 9th, one week from tomorrow. I'll get off of work at midnight and I should be to the bar by 12:30AM. Come help me celebrate. I probably won't mention it again in this space until next week.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

Friday night, when I was at Nikki's I got to listen in on a little drama.

Nikki's has a roommate named Stephanie. Stephanie has a sister. Stephanie's sister and a friend went to this concert in Huntsville, AL, where they live. Huntsville is about an hour and a half from Birmingham. Stephanie's sister is 15 and her friend was 17. After the show they were standing outside and these two total strangers pull up and ask them if they want a ride. They also tell them that they have some nitrous balloons. These guys turn out to be 27 years old.

These two girls were dumb enough to get in the car. Stephanie's sister keeps telling them to take her home but her friend wants to hang out with them. They take the two girls to their hotel room and give ecstasy to the Stephanie's sister's friend. Stephanie's sister just keeps ask them to take her home so they finally did. So the friend stays there and as Stephanie's sister is leaving two other guys show up. This girl is in a hotel room with four guys and has just taken a tab of ecstasy.

Stephanie's sister calls Stephanie and tells her the story. Stephanie actually called the hotel room and they said she had already left. Which was not true. Stephanie was pretending to be the mother of the girl. She called back and said that if she didn't hear from her in 15 minutes the cops will be on their way. They put the girl on the phone and immediately gives the phone back to the guy and tells the guy who she is.

This girl doesn't seem to understand the possible danger she is in and she wants to stay. Stephanie basically chews them out for being perverts and makes sure that they know she is only 17 and gives them more shit about her sister because she is only 15.

The guys seemed pretty paranoid that the cops might be on their way. So hopefully they just took the girl home.

My thought about this was what would happen say 14 years down the road when Sammy's little girl turns 15 and if something like that happened to her. I could definitely see 5 to 8 guys going to that hotel room at a moments notice. Each one with a pistol, if you didn't own one, one could be provided. I could see four guys who would suddenly realize that they picked up the wrong girl. I could also see Sammy being so hot that he would just run in there by himself. But I know he wouldn't need to go by himself or at all actually. Sammy could be somewhere were he would have a strong alibi.

Its good to have friends. God help the poor boy that first dates Sammy's daughter.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.

I really had a good time in Birmingham. I don’t get to see enough of Nikki. Whenever she comes to visit she has so many friends here that I don’t get much of a chance to just sit down and talk with her. It was pretty nice to basically have her to myself for about 3 days.

We went to a couple of bars and we went to a club one night. We got to play some darts. She was playing in a league when she was living in Huntsville. We only got to play 2 games but she beat me both times. Damn it! The last time we played I beat her 6 out of 6. I don’t think my skill level has dropped. She was definitely playing much better. She schooled me the second game.

The weather was fantastic. It was sunny with the highs in the mid 70’s and around 60 at night. I couldn’t have asked for three better days.

She really seems to like Birmingham and her new job.

I got started a little late on this so I’m going to save some more for tomorrow.

Good Night, Good Morning, whatever.
